Sheet To Tiller Steering

Paul Eggermann

hello all,
anyone here experimented with a sheet to tiller self steering system. i have been reading alot about it on different sites and was wondering if anyone has successfully made one to use on a WS28 or WS32. i've seen some pretty simple set-ups that are said to work which make me wonder why they aren't used more often.

I used sheet to tiller for about 300 miles from Alabama to Tarpon Springs Florida. Worked well. Loved the Aires windvane we bought even better. Used it close reaching mostly. Never tried off the wind or running.

Hi Paul, I've recently played around with sheet to tiller steering on my W32. I have some pictures of the setup and sailing with it in some of my log entries on my site www.westsailor.com
Seems like a really easy way to sail but is a somewhat limited to between 50-80 degrees off the wind. I found trying to point too high there was no room for correction.
