What

Boomkin Repair?

Debbie Maidman and Chris Burger

Hello Bud,

I have started to inspect the wooden boomkin assembly, it is off the boat at this time. Appears as if it is oak or fir, as they are highly varnished it hard to tell. There is evidence of some minor black discoloration where the varnish has been compromised and a few areas of minor surface rot where there has been some checking. Discoloration will sand out and the rot can be ground out and filled with epoxy. I have noticed when I laid the beams on my bench that there is a slight bowing downward of both
just at the point where the go over the cap rail.

My question is do you see any problem with continuing to use these components with the repairs I have described and should I be concerned with the bowing?

Best Regards,

Chris Burger
