Hi Bud, Based on the blueprints, Crealock spec'd the bulkheads in the W43 (and other W's presumably)not to be tabbed at the top with glass cloth, but rather tied into the deck via a deck beam and carriage bolts connecting the two (my bulkheads were screwed to the beams instead), thus allowing the bulkhead to move slightly at the top when the boat starts flexing (and it does). Unfortunately, the carriage bolts tend to be a source of leaks into the core due to all the flexing. What are your thoughts on this method of construction after all these years? What was the reason for the original design?

As I redo my deck core, I'm wondering if I should reconsider the original construction method for joining the bulkheads to the deck in favor of a full tabbing over radiused foam applied at the top edge. Was there a good reason for the original method?

Ted,

The bulkheads were not bonded probably from a production standpoint. No reason not to, as most of the well built boats do have the bulkheads bonded to the underside of the deck.
