W42 Masthead Crazing

Julie & John Steveley

We have found many small crazing cracks in the metal directly adjacent to the welded-in masthead fitting on our main mast (it's the tall mast version.) The cracks don't extend far, but are all along the weld. Since we don't know if they have been there since it was new or have developed over time, we'd like to know if any others have seen this with these masts.

John & Julie,
I have not heard of that problem before, and I have seen plenty of older masts. Try contacting LeFiell and Forespar, who both built masts for Westsail and others, for their input.
