Asymmetrical Spinnaker

Warren D. Fraser

I'm considering a cruising spinnaker and have come across one that is rigged the same as an asymmetrical, but is cut like a conventional spinnaker. What might the advantages and disadvantages of this non-asymmetrical cut be? Would it create handling difficulties?

I flew a symmetrical as an asymmetrical on a Catalina 38, and it didn't work very well. While we were flying it, a W32 passed us, which shouldn't happen to a 38! Try getting it recut.
