Buying In The States And Importing To Canada

Joseph (Guest)

I'm interested in purchasing a westsail in the states and taking it back to Canada. Are there any Canadians (or Americans) out there that have knowledge of this process and know the costs involved? Would I have to pay tax in the states? Do I have to pay duty? Any help would be appreciated as I know nothing about this process. Thanks a ton.

Bud Taplin

Sorry, I cannot help you answer all of this question. However, you should not have to pay any sales tax in the state where you purchase the boat, as long as you do not leave the boat there and use it there. You may have to pay a Canadian duty, but you have to check with your customs office to determine that.

Joseph, drop me a line. I am close to purchasing a WS32 in the US and shipping it back to Toronto. (Once Bud has Surveyed) I have the details you are looking for.

FLASH... Large inventory of used sailboat equipment, parts & supplies at great prices. After a 10-year circumnavigation in a Westsail 43, the owners are now clearing out all the excess and getting back to life ashore. Outfit your boat with well-kept equipment and save yourself a bunch of cash in the process!
