Bud, I noticed temp gauge just started to rise to far end of green and then dive to lowest cool green and back and forth on about a 10 -15 sec interval. As soon as raw water would gush in sugres (as it always has) the temp cooled way down fast. Any ideas - Do I check impellar, could it be sludge build up in cooling systems, extractor, exhaust manifold - any suggestions on where to start or do I just call local Volvo mechanic?

Sounds like it may be the thermostat. The entire cooling system should also be cleaned out periodically. The salt water pump also needs to be checked and maintained frequently. Check to make sure the weep hole between the seals on the water pump is clear.


Bud, you were right once again - simple replacement of thermostat. I am also introducing a de-salinization and anti-calcifier liquid to the cooling system to soak for two weeks internally and then blow out to help maintain the buildup of salts and other minerals.
