Locked Thru-hull

Robert Knox (Guest)

The thru-hull to my sink has locked up and I don't know how to get it working again. I am afraid to put too much pressure on it for fear of hurting the thru-hull. It is the butterfly type. Any advise?

When you say the butterfly type, I assume it is a Wilcox seacock, that has a small ear on one side, with a hole in it, and a nut on the opposite side. These have a conical bronze cone in them, and the cone sometimes corrodes and freezes up. The only choice is to haul the boat, disassemble the cone from the body, and lap it in with grinding compound. I have the service manual from Wilcox regarding rebuilding these seacocks, if you need it.
