SSB Ground Question

Bud -

I have seen advise that suggests that the best way for me to build a counterpoise on a Westsail is to tap into the encapsulated lead keel with a stainless bolt by drilling down from the bilge. You said that my boat has the three piece lead ingot arrangement when you surveyed her. Is this a good idea? If it is, where is the best place to drill? I have a dynaplate on the boat that the cable from the mast attaches to. Would that be just as good? Thanks for any advice.

I would do no good to try to attach to the three separate pieces of lead ballast. The dynaplate is a useful means of a counterpoise, but nothing else should be also attached to it, especially a lightning grounding wire from the mast.

Thanks, Bud. That's what I'll do.
