Engine Room Bilge

RJ Burns and Jen Harner

Hello Bud,
I own W32 #38 Sumna. Prior to our ownership she had a well done engine room upgrade including new engine (Beta) and engine pan. The pan appears to be about 2" thick. How deep is the void space under the pan?
There is no easy way to inspect this area. I slid a small tape down a very narrow vertical hose run but am not confident it went all the way down. It also came back indicating an accumulation of water. Not sure if depth is great enough to make it worthwhile installing an inspection port.
Thank you!
RJ

As I remember, on those original engine pans there was only an inch or two clearance between the top of the ballast and the underside of the pan. That was to allow any water coming from the shaft log to pass under the pan and get to the bilge sump.
