Filler For Hull Joint

Ryman and Suzanne Kay

The filler used on the exteriror hull joint running from bow to stern on my 1974 Westsail 32 has cracked and fallen out in some places. I would appreciate your advice concerning the best type of filler to use and the proper way to do this repair. Thanks. Ennis Kay

The filler on the seam between the halves of the hull was originally mishmash, which was a mixture of polyester resin and asbestos. For any repairs, I recommend using an epoxy putty. Clean out the joint well of any existing loose putty, and then fill with epoxy putty.

Thanks for the info on the seam filler repair. I will mix some mill fiber with the epoxy to give it a peanut butter consistency and then fill the seam with that. Also, my email address is enniskay@gmail.com. Ennis

Thanks for the links. I will be doing the caprail seam repair after I finish the bottom work so the information provided sure will help. Ennis
