Sea Tiger Mounting

Joe Kovacs

For a Sea Tiger 555 windlass, the manual says to install it on the boom just ahead of the samson posts.

Doesn't this interfere mightily with the fair lead from the anchor rollers to the samson posts?

Aaron Norlund

No, on my boat the gypsy and wildcat are above the plane on which the chain would run to the samson posts. The chain has to come up to the windlass and there is a fair, straight lead underneath the heads to the posts.

Definitely check it on your boat though. You could always put a riser...

My bowsprit is mounted between the sampson posts, and through a wooden box that is maybe 6 inches forward of the sampson posts. The windlass is mounted on top of the wooden box.

As Aaron said, in this position, the windlass doesn't interfere with the sampson posts at all. Kind of hard to see in this photo, but it's all I've got.
