Rudder Play

David Beardsley

Aloha Bud,
I have a bit of play(side to side) in the top gudgeon and pin on Asylum's rudder. Can you tell me how much is to much, is there a replaceable bushing for this and can I fix this in the water with out pulling off the whole rudder. Also I found a meathook in one of my bowspirt whiskers and would like to get a new set from you when you have the time.
Thanks, David Beardsley.

David, Not much you can do about stopping the sideplay except fot inserting some pieces of a plastic material. Your boat has fiberglass gudgeons with bronze pins. The fiberglass has probably worn some.

Regarding the bowsprit whisker stays, you need to send me an email with the exact length and the type of end fittings you have.

FLASH... Large inventory of used sailboat equipment, parts & supplies at great prices. After a 10-year circumnavigation in a Westsail 43, the owners are now clearing out all the excess and getting back to life ashore. Outfit your boat with well-kept equipment and save yourself a bunch of cash in the process!
