2009 Rendezvous

Dlmont2

Any interest out there for a Florida west coast Rendezvous in the Tampa Bay area????

Aaron Norlund

Don,

I'm sure we can make it by car, but probably not boat. Let us know when you plan to do it.

If not, we'll have a "rendezvous" when you get down here in the Fall...

Cheers,
Aaron N.

Chrisp and Pam

Pam and I would like to come. Our Westsail won't be ready but we can bring a sailboat. We need a bumper sticker that says 'Our other boat is a Westsail!' haha :-)

Dlmont2

Great news Chris and Pam! When will your Westsail be ready and what dates work for you? Where are you coming from?

Anybody else out there?

We can have it at the Harborage Marina. Slips will be available. We can have a BBQ and there is a nice new cafe on site. We will make it on a date that will work for Bud and maybe we can do some sort of demonstration as well as tell lies. Any other ideas????

Ellipsis

Depends on the date, Don. Jackie and I are outahere on May 1, give or take 10 minutes! Still working feverishly on the boat the next couple of weeks. Back in July or so for a bit. If the schedule works we could attempt the passage from St. Pete Municipal to the Harborage. We like to sail overnight!!!

Ken on Ellipsis

Chrisp and Pam

Don,
We live in North Georgia. It's a long drive and the dates and circumstances will determine if we can come. I have been to Tampa area several times but this would be the first time boating there. There are some nice islands we would like to visit.
We bought Scudder after Ike and we're still in the evaluation stage. She looks good though and I have been saying two years, when I turn 50, to get the boat ready. Time will tell.
Chris

Flambeau

I'm interested...

I live in Panama City and would like to try to sail there if possible, but would drive if not.

Paul

Chrisp and Pam

Is there a usual time frame for this? April or May? I'm usually scheduled out two to four weeks. Ok, so I guess I can come in May, maybe. Ken, I would like to see you before you go. I guess you're going on a two month cruise?
Chris

Dlmont2

April is a bit too soon. Any votes for mid June?? We will also need to see when Bud is available.

Bradenp34

My significant other and I just purchased a W32 fixer in California and will be getting it shipped to the Florida East Coast (where we live) soon. We will obviously will not have it ready for the Rendezvous, but will definitely be in attendance whether it is in April, May or June.

Bud Taplin
(Member)

Don, The first and second weekends in May are already taken for rendezvous. Any other time would be fine with me, but please not on a holiday weekend. I can never get on standby to Tampa over any holidays.

Dlmont2

Thanks Bud! The admiral and I are doing a delivery this weekend from Miami to St Pete and we will have plenty of time to discuss plans. Hope everyone stays tuned in so we can have a great gathering. We appreciate the fedback from everyone.

Dlmont2

How does everyone feel about memorial day weekend??????????????????

Ellipsis

Don, That's probably the best week-end, but we'll be in the Bahamas by then. We'll think about you, though.

Ken
Ellipsis

Aaron Norlund

Don,

Memorial Day weekend, so May 23rd-24th? Yes, that will work for us; we may be able to sail up, too. If not, I'll come up on land. Hopefully we'll have our new RIB by then, so we can bring that for a high mobility boat.

Cheers,

Caskeyhs

Don,

I'm with Bud, the weekend before or after the holiday works for me, hopefully I'll be on the water Memorial day Weekend.

scott

Chrisp and Pam

I have sort of a good problem, I'm scheduled for 4-5 weeks out. So I'll need as much advance notice as possible. Also, if there is a date set and if Bud comes out, maybe I can arrange for him to see Scudder. I went to his home in California last week and it was very informative. So, if we set a date, I can put it on my calender.

Dlmont2

How does June 12, 13, 14 look for everyone?

We will send out all the details in a couple of weeks if this date works well.

There are about 8 empty slips on the dock where we are located, so it looks like we can all be on the same dock.

Aaron Norlund

Don,

Sure, we can make just about anything work by land. That'd be too late for us to sail up - the boat will be out and beside the house by then. But we can drive.

Cheers,
Aaron N.

Don, I would be happy to do a mailing to all of the Florida and SE US owners that I have on my list. Probably about 130 owners, plus some wanabees. The mailing should be 6 to 7 weeks prior to the rendezvous though. So the mailing should be done no later than the end of April.

Dlmont2

Mark your calendars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Bud. Let's make it official! June 12, 13 and 14, 2009. I will send you more detail in a week or two in an email for your flyer.

We are looking forward to meeting everyone and having a great time. Thanks to all for the support!

Dlmont2

Here are the details for the Florida West Coast Rendezvous. Please email me your intentions to attend. See you all soon. Aaron, would you like to post a nautical chart with waypoints???? Any suggestions and help is always appreciated.

Don and Lana

Dlmont2

Hey Florida West Coast Westsail sailors!!!!!!!!!!

Pipe up and let us know if your coming and give us some ideas for the rendezvous.

I heard a rumor that there will be lots of very cool prizes.

Dlmont2

Great news for those that plan to attend the 2009 Rendezvous in St Petersburg, FL. The Harborage Marina has offered to donate fuel certificates to used as prizes for the Rendezvous. We also have a few other marine suppliers that are donating goodies for this event. Please email us and let us know if you are coming. dlmont2@aol.com
Bud Taplin will be here!!!!!!!!!!

Aaron Norlund

Don,

We'll be there, but surely via land, not sea. Whether the boat is in the water or not, I don't plan to have her in sailing condition till the end of the summer. Finances are making it appear that I'll have to do most of the work with her in the water, with just a brief stint out for a bottom job.

Cheers,
Aaron N.

Sailtosunset

Is this a good event for a "Westsail Wannabe" to attend? I live on the "other side" of Florida just a three hour drive away.

Regina Potts

Dlmont2

Hi Regina .. This is an excellent event to get to know more about the Westsail.. you may even get to go on a sail. Bud Taplin will be here, the Westsail guru, to answer any questions you may have.. also a great opportunity to meet and mingle with current Westsail owners.
We hope you can make it and look forward to meeting you!
Lana

Dlmont2

Thanks to all that have called and emailed about the rendezvous. It looks like we have several W32's and one W42 Ketch attending. Be sure to make your slip reservations with the Harborage Marina. Let us know what we can do to make this a great experience for each of you.

Don and Lana

Dlmont2

It looks like we will be adding an item to the agenda. Bud will be doing a custom build and installation on a lazy jack system. This demo will include how to make an eye splice. You won't want to miss this one.

Don and Lana

Aaron Norlund

Don,

Also, if there is interest, I can show a few methods of proper mousing, siezing, whipping, and lashing; very useful things I learned while crewing on tallships.

Cheers,
Aaron N.

Dlmont2

Aaron,

Great idea! Send me an email with a brief description and the time you need and we will work it out.

Thanks

Don and Lana

Dlmont2

Chris & Sandra Calagan just contacted us and they will be attending the rendezvous with a newly purchased Westsail 32. Keep em coming and let's have a great time!

Don and Lana

Chrisp and Pam

Ok, we're committing! We were waiting for some things to gel but last I heard, Bud is coming here to survey our boat the Monday before the rendezvous. Bud, you're still coming right?

Scudder won't be ready but we're bringing the zodiac and our camera. Other than that, we have no specific plans and we really don't know what to expect. So be nice for Pam's sake!

Chris and Pam

Aaron Norlund

Hey all,

So I'm curious about whether anyone is going to have a planing inflatable with them at the rendezvous? I have an RIB, but no motor for it yet.

I would really like to get a boat or two out and shoot some video and photos. One of the large improvements and additions I'd like to make to the site is a multimedia area with links to videos and photos, including action shots. This rendezvous might be a great opportunity to get some of this.

If no one has a fast small boat, perhaps someone has a 9.9 or 15hp outboard they could bring?

Thanks for your interest and support!

Fair leads,
Aaron N.

Dlmont2

Thanks to all for great emails and feedback. It looks like we are going to have quite a nice little gathering in St Petersburg next week. I sure hope the beer holds out!!!!!!!!!!!! There will be at least two demonstrations for marlin spike as well as other good schtuff! We will be monitoring VHF channel 16 so be sure to hail S/V Mary Rose and we catch your dock lines. You can also call the mobile phone number listed on the flyer. See you all soon!

Don,

Bad news; I'm not going to be able to make the rendezvous. A few things just shifted in my schedule and now I must be in Miami next Saturday and Sunday. It's unfortunate as I was looking forward to seeing everyone. Perhaps next time!

If I don't see a response here or via email, I'll give you a call. Hope the rendezvous goes well!

Best,
Aaron N.

Dlmont2

Hi Joe,

I use Don's Marine salvage on a regular basis. Save lots of $$$$$

Don, these things are great fun.

Aaron Norlund

Wishing you all a great rendezvous. Remember to take many photos, and even videos!

Cheers,
Aaron N.
