Lewmar Winches

I am working out a group buy on Lewmar winches. A Westsail owner happens to work in sales at Lewmar, so he has worked up excellent prices on the winches. They need to be ordered and shipped to me, and I will ship them to the buyers. Lewmar does not want to drop ship to individual owners considering this discounted price, and then wait for payment.

Lewmar #14CST $585 list, $293 WOA price
Lewmar #16CST $748 list, $374 WOA price
Lewmar #30CST $1,140 list, $570 WOA price
Lewmar #40CST $1.400 list, $700 WOA peice
Lewmar #46CST $1,881 list, $941 WOA price

Fed Ex ground shipping cost will be added to any order.

IF you are interested, leave a message here, or contact me directly by email.

What size would be the replacement for the Barient 22's that I have for jib sheets?

Here are the cross reference sizes: All the Lewmar winches noted here are self-tailing and are chrome bronze. The non self-tailing and other Lewmar winches are also available, and can get the prices on request.

Lewmar #14CST -- Barlow #19 - Barient #17 and #10ST
Lewmar #16CST -- Barlow #19 - Barient #17
Lewmar #30CST -- Barlow #23 - Barient #21
Lewmar #40CST -- Barlow #24 - Barient #22
Lewmar #46CST -- Barlow #25 and #27ST - Barient #24 and #27ST

Does anyone use #30 Lewmars for jib sheets? The #40 will not fit existing winch pads...so will have to replace those as well if I go to #40 Lewmars....

Kevin Donahue and Marilyn Falconer

I installed #30CST's as primarys on my W28 and #16CST's for my halyards. I believe Bud can provide an adaptor plate that attaches to the original winch pads and is large enough to fit the #40CST's.

The easiest thing to do if you want to install winches that are larger on the base bolt circle than the existing tops of the brackets is to remove the brackets from the boat, have larger plates welded on top of the existing brackets, drill new winch mounting holes, and reinstall the brackets. The brackets themselves are plenty strong enough for larger winches, even if the top is not large enough.

I can get that done for you if you do not have a local source capable of making this easy modification.

Bud,
Just checking options, here. Satori has Barlow 20s for jib sheets. Do you think it would be okay to drop down to the Lewmar CST #16, or would I have to move up? Thanks in advance.

Randy,
Since you can get a lot of tension and power needed to pull on a headsail, I would recommend the largest winches you can afford for the headsails.
The Barlow 20's are about the smallest winches that were originally installed. Also, they are one speed, and you should use a two speed winch for headsails. From the #30 on up they are two speed.

So will #30 Lewmars be to small for primary winches for a w32?
Kevin - how are you liking the 30's on your w28?
Thanks

With only a $130 each difference between the Lewmar 30 and the 40, I would highly recommend going with the #40 for primary winches on the W32.

Kevin Donahue and Marilyn Falconer

The #30ST's work really great on my W28, in fact this the second W28 that I've had #30ST's on. But, I would concur with Bud that 40ST's would probably be a better choice on a W32.

Many years ago(technically last century !) I owned a 32' 15000# full keel boat that I also put #30ST's on for my primarys. While we did sail that boat to the South Pacific and back using the #30ST's, there were times during that cruise when conditions were bad and the winds were in the 40+ range that Marilyn (even with lots of adrenalin pumping)was barely able to crank the winches under those extreem loads.

The sizes on Lewmar winches relate to their power ratio, a size 30 will give apx 30:1 power output with a 10" handle in 2nd gear. A size 40 gives apx 40:1 in the same conditions.

Check these out on eBay: Lewmar 30s 2 speed non-self tailing CP Bronze new for $185 Buy it Now. I think there still are 5 up for BIN. There were 6 but one already has a bid so it no longer can be had with Buy it Now. I think if they go to biddding they will go way over the Buy it Now price so act fast if you want a good deal. I run a saved search for sailboat gear and these look to be a good deal. I have no interest in this auction but thought someone here might so here's the link:

I have placed two good orders on winches so far as part of this group buy. I was told by the Lewmar Rep that this group buy will expire in about a month. If you are thinking about upgrading your winches, get in on this buy as soon as possible.

Bud Taplin

FLASH - The group buy on the winches will expire on May 1, so April 30 is the last day I have to place any orders.  If you have been thinking about new winches, but have been holding off, now is the time to contact me.  These prices are 50% off of retail.

The group buy on Lewmar winches ended today. There were 9 owners that took advantage of the buy, purchasing 23 winches, and saving about $14,000 off of the retail prices.

Might be able to get this deal again sometime near the end of the year, depending on conditions.

Aaron Norlund

Bud,

Do you know what a Barient 19 is equal to, or what it's power ratio is?

Thanks!
Aaron

I have some of the old Barient catalogs, and they do not show a Model 19 winch. They have an 18 and 21 in a standard winch, and a 17 and 21 in self-tailing.

Barlow has a #19 self-tailing model though.

Aaron,

Let me know what you want and I will check on it.

Aaron Norlund

Bud,

We'd want a set of 40s or 48s for our jib sheets, and 16s for the stays'l. We need to figure out how much it'll cost so we can get it saved up.

Thanks!
Aaron

Aaron Norlund

Bud,

Any chance of getting a group buy that would include all bronze self tailing winches? I think we've decided to replace our non-selftailing sheet winches with selftailers.

Thanks!
Aaron

Bud: I could use a pair of Lewmar 30AST winches.Alloy, not chrome. Still available?
Thanks for all your efforts!
