Trunk Cabin Sides

Tom Crank

The majority of the Westsails have veneer plywood liner on the sides of the trunk cabin (around the portlights). Some of the boats I see have what appears to be tongue and groove hardwood in either a horizontal or vertical orientation. Do you know what thickness would be appropriate for a hardwood liner and what method of installation should be used. It seems that if it was applied over ribs it would require portlights with really long spigots.

Use as thin a wood as you can find, and cut around the portlight ring, rather than going under the ring. Glue the wood on with contact cement, gorilla glue, or similar.
