Stainless Steel Pintals And Gudgeons

scott caskey

I have one those changeover W32's mentioned in your service manual, pockets molded into the rudder with stainless steel pintals and gudgeons.
I'm getting a price from a machinist for welding and drilling new strap ends as well as pricing a complete re-fabrication.
Depending on his answer, should I be considering the fiberglass gudgeon and brass pin build as a cost effective alternative.
If so, how is the brass pin constrained to the pocket.

The bronze (not brass) pin is bolted to the pockets in the rudder with bronze bolts. A description of the construction of the fiberglass gudgeons is in my Westsail Service Manual.
