W42 Mast To Compression Post Chase

Richard and Penny Beesley

Bud, Viking Rose is a factory built (#111) W42. I need to replace my VHF coax to the mast top antenna. Having not had the opportunity to unstep the mast since I purchased the boat, I am curious as to what the thru deck configuration is. Several W32 owners say they have gooseneck conduits at deck level, and a kit built W42 owner says he has a straight hole through which snaking a new coax would not be a problem. What would your best guess be for a factory built W42?
Thanks. Hope all is well.

Bud Taplin

The factory normally put a hole through the mast base and the cabintop in line with the stainless pipe used as an internal support. That hole should go all the way through to the bottom plate just under the cabin sole. The I beam should be 1-1/2" below the plate, and there should be 1-1/2" of spacers on each side between the bottom plate of the mast post and the I beam. The spacers have a gap between them to allow the wiring to come out above the beam.
