Forward Hatch

I would recommend an aluminum hatch. Obtain an aluminum hatch with a flat mounting flange. Cut the teak trim down to the level of the boss. That way you can screw the flange of the hatch down directly to the fiberglass boss. I have pictures of one I did on a W32, on both the forward and lazarette hatches.

Bud,
I am trying to decide if I should rebuild my forward hatch or replace it with an aluminum one. While I prefer the traditional look a lighter better sealing hatch would be nice. Is there a particular replacement hatch you recommend? Also the molded boss has drains built in, would I fill these if installing the aluminum hatch?

Any preference on make and model? Should the molded drains in the boss be filled?

Thanks,

Pick a hatch that fits and that you can purchase at a somewhat reasonable cost. No need to fill in the molded drains, as they will not be needed anyway.
