Kevin Donahue and Marilyn Falconer

The #30ST's work really great on my W28, in fact this the second W28 that I've had #30ST's on. But, I would concur with Bud that 40ST's would probably be a better choice on a W32.

Many years ago(technically last century !) I owned a 32' 15000# full keel boat that I also put #30ST's on for my primarys. While we did sail that boat to the South Pacific and back using the #30ST's, there were times during that cruise when conditions were bad and the winds were in the 40+ range that Marilyn (even with lots of adrenalin pumping)was barely able to crank the winches under those extreem loads.

The sizes on Lewmar winches relate to their power ratio, a size 30 will give apx 30:1 power output with a 10" handle in 2nd gear. A size 40 gives apx 40:1 in the same conditions.

Kevin

FLASH... Large inventory of used sailboat equipment, parts & supplies at great prices. After a 10-year circumnavigation in a Westsail 43, the owners are now clearing out all the excess and getting back to life ashore. Outfit your boat with well-kept equipment and save yourself a bunch of cash in the process!
