If you are in need of a piece of expensive gear that you think others may need also, a group buy may be just the thing. But how does it work?

The best example of a group buy is the Cape Horn Windvane (http://www.caphorn.com). I use this as an example because we have had two successful group purchases from them in the past. The way it works is to post a message here and see who else might be interested in the same thing. Then, contact the manufacturer and see if they will offer you a discount if we buy as a group. Cape horn offered us a discount of 15% off for the purchase of 3 or more vanes, and 25% off for the purchase of 10 or more. On a $2500 piece of gear, that is a significant savings!

So, don't be shy. That is why this topic is here. Post a message and save yourself, and others, some money on that badly needed piece of gear.

Outfit your boat with well-kept equipment and save yourself a bunch of cash in the process!
