When you say the butterfly type, I assume it is a Wilcox seacock, that has a small ear on one side, with a hole in it, and a nut on the opposite side. These have a conical bronze cone in them, and the cone sometimes corrodes and freezes up. The only choice is to haul the boat, disassemble the cone from the body, and lap it in with grinding compound. I have the service manual from Wilcox regarding rebuilding these seacocks, if you need it.

FLASH... Large inventory of used sailboat equipment, parts & supplies at great prices. After a 10-year circumnavigation in a Westsail 43, the owners are now clearing out all the excess and getting back to life ashore. Outfit your boat with well-kept equipment and save yourself a bunch of cash in the process!
